Greening Large Events

Missoula Compost is proud to be collecting organics with the Western Montan fair this year. This is a great opportunity to make a difference during local events. The Western Montana Fair, along with other large community events, need volunteers to help efforts towards more sustainable options.

Compost collected from the first two days of the Western MT Fair 2023. Little Terrence working hard!

The Missoula County Department of Ecology & Extension have partnered with Home Resource, Missoula Compost, and Missoula County Fairgrounds to address the waste streams at one of the biggest annual events in Missoula.  Each year in August, The Western MT Fair brings in folks and animals from all over the state.  Over 150,000 people walk through the gates excited to experience all the fair has to offer.

Missoula County is working toward the set goal of Zero (waste) by 2050. The Fair is a great opportunity to work towards this goal. Vendors will be participating by using compostable and recyclable packaging. Missoula County will also be offering only reusable/recyclable water bottles and offering enhanced zero waste stations throughout the venue.

So how can you help this effort?

Volunteers working with The Pledge Zero Green Team is crucial to the success of a green fairgrounds and events. Volunteers will be expected to monitor waste stations and sort waste, keep waste stations clean, and educate fair goers on waste reduction, recycling, composting, and encourage participation towards our zero waste goal. Without the dedication and hard work of volunteers, our community will not be able to achieve the high levels of waste reduction we are aiming for.
